Aegean Airlines, Greece’s largest carrier in terms of fleet size, will permanently increase its flights to Tehran in the summer. Starting June 23, the Star Alliance member will increase Athens–Tehran operation from 3 to 7 weekly flights using an Airbus A320 aircraft. It previously planned to increase flights from 3 to 4 weekly, routesonline.com reported. The airline launched the Tehran route last July, following the signing of the landmark nuclear deal between Iran and six major world powers (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany). The route has considerably cut travel time between the two countries. Previously, it took Iranians two flights and a stopover to reach Greece, but the direct route has cut traveling time from 10 hours to three hours.
