After a century of archaeological research in Iran, a comprehensive map of the country’s archaeological heritage will be prepared, according to a senior official at the Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicraft and Tourism Organization. An archeological map is basically a Geographical Information System — a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of spatial or geographical data — documenting a country’s archeological sites. “I see it of vital importance to prepare and publish the archaeological heritage map, including provincial details, in quickest time possible,” IRNA quoted Muhammad Hassan Talebian, the cultural heritage deputy at the ICHHTO, as saying. The map will be available to the public, he added.
