A senior official at the Qeshm Free Zone Organization has announced the launch of an airline in collaboration with Chinese investors.

Speaking to ILNA, chief executive of QFZO, Hamidreza Momeni, said the airline will be launched “sometime in the first half of the next Iranian year (starts March 20).”

He did not name the Chinese investment firm, but said businesses in Pakistan are also interested in a share of the airline. The airline, which will be called Fly Qeshm, will begin operation with a small fleet of leased airplanes.

“The Chinese are handling negotiations to rent planes with the option to buy,” Momeni said, stopping short of disclosing the number of aircraft the new company is planning to acquire.

Earlier this month, the official said that a route to Guangzhou in China will start soon, a route that Fly Qeshm will probably offer.
