Tehran’s transport and tour officials have agreed to cooperate to upgrade old tour buses that ply the sprawling metropolis. At a meeting of the Supreme National Security Council’s commission on the safety and security of foreign tourists, representatives from the Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization and the Tehran Province’s Transport and Terminal Department signed a memorandum of understanding to improve the quality of bus tours in the capital including het upgrading of dilapidated buses. The transportation department agreed to provide tour operators with a well-equipped modern fleet of buses that meet international standards. The ICHHTO in turn will organize workshops for bus drivers selected by the TPTTD to acquaint them with its rules and regulations and train them in the basics of hospitality. Iran has officially announced that improving and promoting the tourist industry is one of its priorities to improve the image of the ancient land and augment revenue sources.
