Iran’s top tourism official has reaffirmed Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization’s commitment to developing Silk Road tourism by contributing to efforts to revitalize the legendary road. During  a trip to Sabzevar, Khorasan Razavi Province, which is located along the historical road, Masoud Soltanifar said investing in towns such as Sabzevar is crucial to the organization’s plans to develop Silk Road tourism, according to the Persian daily Donya-e-Eqtesad. Last month, Morteza Rahmani Movahed, tourism deputy at the ICHHTO, held talks with the German company Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to expand  bilateral cooperation to include projects in line with the UN World Tourism Organization-backed Silk Road Economic Belt initiative, which aims to develop sustainable tourism in Silk Road countries. Iran also wants to explore the prospects of a joint effort involving China in developing Silk Road tourism.
