Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization and German Society for International Cooperation, or GIZ, issued a joint statement on Tuesday announcing cooperation on sustainable tourism.

At the end of their trip to Iran, which included visits to protected areas, historical and cultural attractions, hotels and eco-lodges, Klaus Lengefeld, a sustainable development expert at GIZ, and Ralph Wahnschafft, an official at the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, expressed their willingness to collaborate with Iran on sustainability issues, ILNA reported.

The two sides agreed to exchange information on recent advancements in the field of sustainable tourism and pledged to work in tandem in international events, including tourism and travel exhibitions, related to sustainable tourism.

The Germans also agreed to advise ICHHTO on policy issues and help devise effective guidelines.

According to the statement, they will present their first recommendations by December 1.
