According to the new regulations of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, entry to Hengam Island by any vehicle will be prohibited, director general of Dolf Hengam Travel Agency, Afshin Abbasnejad Hengami, told Mana News Agency. Located near Qeshm Island, Hengam is one of main islands of the Persian Gulf earmarked for development of maritime tourism. ICHHTO’s officials have promised to establish tourist resorts in various parts of the island. The ban is aimed at preventing the entry of technologies that can harm the island’s environment. ICHHTO’s officials had in the past promised to develop tourism on Hengam Island, but this has not materialized so far. “We hope that in the current administration, tourism officials will deliver their promises and develop the island’s tourism,” Hengami said. “Plans include the establishment of campsites, sanitary facilities and other tourism infrastructures. We hope to see them realized on day.”
