The United Nations World Tourism Organization has admitted 26 new affiliate members, including two private Iranian firms, into the organization on Thursday, during the 21st UNWTO General Assembly in Medellin, Colombia.

Ali Baqer Nemati Zargaran, promotion and marketing deputy at Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, said the two companies, Alisadr Travel Company and Qoqnoos Tour and Travel Agency, were nominated by ICHHTO, Borna News Agency reported.

The new additions bring the total number of UNWTO affiliate members to 480. In addition to the steadily growing member count, more than 80 affiliate members were represented at the assembly, a new record and a testimonial to the strong interest in the UNWTO Affiliate Members Program’s work to advance tourism partnerships.

The program includes more than 100 universities, research centers and training schools dedicated to investigating, generating and sharing their research.

Through UNWTO membership, affiliate members benefit from various networking opportunities and platforms to share knowledge and expertise.

An affiliate membership of the organization is open to international bodies related to tourism and to commercial bodies and associations whose activities pursue the aims of UNWTO.
