Some 300 billion rials ($8.8 million) have been invested in West Azarbaijan Province’s tourism industry, according to the head of the provincial Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department. Speaking at the inauguration of Kouh-e Seer Health Tourism Camping Site in Urmia, Jalil Jabbari added that 50 billion rials ($1.4 million) have been allocated by the government to set up more camping sites across the province, Mehr News Agency reported. Jabbari conceded that more funding is necessary to develop tourism infrastructure in the province and called for more intra-governmental collaboration. “Execution of tourism projects becomes possible when there is mutual understanding between various executive bodies,” he said. With 1,400 registrations on the National Heritage List, West Azarbaijan attracts a large number of domestic tourists every year.
