Nineteen lodging facilities have been closed down by authorities since March 2015, according to Hossein Sajedinia, Tehran police chief. “With the approval of Greater Tehran’s Security and Intelligence Commission, lodging facilities, including hotels and hostels, have been strictly monitored since March,” ISNA quoted Sajedinia as saying. Sajedinia said 1,408 lodging facilities have been inspected so far, 129 of which received warnings and 19 were found to be in violation of regulations and were promptly shut down. “The strict monitoring regime adopted by the police force is aimed at improving safety and security of travelers,” he said. The police chief warned managers of lodging facilities against checking in individuals who fail to present identity cards and encouraged them to report suspicious cases to the police via the 110 hotline. Sajedinia advised travelers to avoid staying in unknown lodging facilities and private establishments, such as apartments, during their trips.
