Following the recent visit made by Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to Iran, the Indian government decided to ease visa formalities for Iranian nationals. Visa processing for students, businessmen, staffers working at Iranian organizations and even tourists used to take weeks and at times months, IRNA reported. In 2014, the Indian government set up an electronic visa processing system for over 40 countries, but Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, Nigeria and Sir Lanka were not included. An Indian official said on condition of anonymity that New Delhi is currently studying the possibility of crossing out Iran from the list of countries where documents undergo stringent checks.
