Imam Khomeini International Airport’s second runway is expected to be completed by the end of the next Iranian year (March 20, 2017).

Quoting director general of the airport, Hamidreza Seyyedi, ISNA reports that the project is 60% complete and, barring financial hiccups, the runway will be completed in less than two years.

Giving updates on the project, he pointed to monetary obstacles that have hampered progress and said, “Nevertheless, the project has not stopped.”

The airport has two terminals under construction: Salam Terminal, slated for 2016, and Iranshahr Terminal, which will be completed in three years.

Experts believe the two terminals will increase the capacity of IKIA sixfold; from five million to 30 million passengers.
