There are 20 tangible and intangible cultural heritages in Iran ready for submission to UNESCO to be assessed and, if approved, inscribed on the organization’s heritage lists, said the head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, Masoud Soltanifar.
Speaking to IRNA at Bojnourd airport in North Khorasan Province, he said, “The entire process may take up to 20 years.”
Since 2007, each country is annually eligible to nominate only one cultural heritage to be inscribed on UNESCO’s lists of tangible, intangible and Memory of the World Program. Iran has so far 35 heritages inscribed on the organization’s three lists.
Speaking on the province’s tourism development, director general of ICHHTO’s provincial office in North Khorasan Province, Mohammad Savidanlouei said over 1,100 billion rials ($33.3 million) will be allocated to bolster the province’s tourism infrastructure.
The amount will be spent on construction of four- and five-star hotels in the province -- planned to finish by the end of the next Iranian year (ending March 20, 2017).
