In a written note, the mayor of Italy’s capital city, Ignazio Marino, congratulated the Nowruz to Iranian residents in Rome. He considered Nowruz a very good chance for spreading love, peace, friendship, and respect among all nations. Rome municipality congratulates Iranians on the occasion of Nowruz every year since 2011. Iranians in Italy celebrate Nowruz on March 21, in Ferdowsi square in Rome by setting out traditional 7-Sin (seven symbols) in front of the statue of the world renowned Iranian poet. Moreover, March 21 was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly as International Nowruz Day, in 2010, at the initiative of several countries that share this holiday (Afghanistan, Albania, Azerbaijan, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, India, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Turkmenistan. Nowruz is inscribed in 2009 on the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity as an ancestral festivity marking the first day of spring and the renewal of nature to promotes values of peace and solidarity between generations and as well as families.
