Oman Air, the flagship carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, plans to add flights to new destinations in Iran in the near future, according to Iranian ambassador to Muscat, Ali Akbar Sibeveih.

The new flights between Muscat and Mashhad and Muscat and Shiraz are expected to be launched in the first three months of 2015, Sibeveih, Times of Oman reported.

He also said that the capacity of the Muscat-Tehran flights will be increased from March given Oman Air’s fleet expansion plans.

Oman Air had earlier announced that it would expand fleet strength to 50 aircraft by the beginning of 2017.

The fleet expansion is part of a larger plan to strengthen the country’s national carrier, at a time when two international airports – Muscat and Salalah – are undergoing expansion, and three regional airports are getting ready to receive passengers.

Commenting on cargo flights, the ambassador said that the two countries have not set any limit in this regard to enhance economic cooperation.

Sibeveih noted that Oman has many tourist attractions, especially in Salalah during the Khareef season, and Iran has plans to promote Oman’s tourism among Iranians.

Hopefully, Iran’s national carrier will launch flights to Salalah in the near future as agreed by the officials of the two countries, he said.
