Iran has filed its Qanats (traditional aqua ducts) to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List, and put Lut Desert forward to be registered as a national heritage, announced the cultural heritage deputy of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO), Mohammad Hassan Talebiyan, CHN quoted him saying.

The deadline for Inscription on UNESCO World natural and cultural heritage list was February 1.  The date is a convention approved in 1972, when the national commission for UNESCO obliged member countries to present their cases, in an annual meeting, for being inscribed on the lists of historical, cultural, and natural heritage.

Iran has inscribed 17 elements on UNESCO World Heritage List but no element has yet been inscribed on the natural heritage list; Lut Desert is the first to be nominated for inscription as a natural site.
