Over 600,000 foreign visitors entered the country through the West Azerbaijan borders in the 11 months of the current Iranian year (ends March 20), announced the tourism deputy of the provincial office of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO), Hossein Emami.

Four new tourism routes to the north, west, south, and central part of the province have been mapped out as the main routes where the potential of the province, particularly the natural attractions of southern cities such as Piranshahr, Sardasht, and Oshnaviyeh will be introduced most effectively to visitors, the official said, CHTN reported.

He pointed to the lack of accommodation throughout West Azerbaijan Province, noting that only 18% of the international travelers are accommodated within the province, with the remainder resorting to alternative arrangements. “It is vital to adopt policies to develop infrastructure to house more tourists for a longer period of time,” he asserted.

Emami outlined measures to better accommodate Nowruz travelers who intend to visit the province and noted that the capacity to host visitors is two-fold compared to last year.
