Burning crude oil in burn pits during oil drilling and processing in Khuzestan Province will be banned as of September 23, on the order of Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh. The order was issued following complaints by provincial authorities in Khuzestan about the growing air pollution and other environmental challenges caused by the dense smoke released from burn pits, IRNA reported. Besides economic losses, crude oil burning gives rise to grave environmental pollution. All production units have been instructed to use mobile oil treatment systems instead. In urgent cases, burn pits should be designed as per defined standards so as to prevent soil pollution and any environmental spillage.
