Fires burning for more than eight hours engulfed 4 hectares of land around Parishan Wetland in Fars Province, destroying the flora. “The fires, which began at around 11.30 a.m. on Friday, were finally put out by firefighters and locals at about 7.30 p.m.,” Mahmoud Jafari, the head of the Department of Environment office in Kazeroun, told YJC. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear but it is likely that the scorching heat in the region started it. The temperature in Kazeroun was about 39 degrees Celsius at 11 a.m. on Friday and continued to rise to as much as 43°C, according to Weather.com.
