The Iranian Space Agency is making good on its promise to develop the remote environmental monitoring capability. Based on a memorandum of understanding signed on Tuesday between the Department of Environment and ISA, the space agency will help the department monitor the environment to collect data on wildlife and natural resources such as forests, as well as monitor for potential dangers to the environment. The MoU was signed by Farhad Dabiri, deputy for natural environment at the DOE, and Mohsen Bahrami, the director of ISA, Mehr News Agency reported. Using advanced remote monitoring systems provide access to hard-to-reach locations and give access to real-time data. “Remote monitoring is a very functional tool,” said Homayoun Sadr, deputy head of ISA. “It can be used to help protect biodiversity, prevent damage to habitats, and ensure proper use of lands, among others. It can even function as an early warning system for flooding.”
