The city of Khansar in Isfahan Province will receive a $1.5 million grant from the Japan Cooperation Center for the Middle East to help fix its water network eroded by seepage, the Young Journalists Club reported Saturday. “The grant is in line with Japan’s policy to help countries rise to the challenges of water shortage,” said Hussein Gholami, a deputy at the provincial Water and Wastewater Company. The aid can help cut water loss due to old and eroded pipes by up to 40%. Japan has expressed interest in collaborating with Iran in the key water sector, and officials believe with the easing of economic sanctions, the two countries can further expand cooperation in the field. Last week the local media reported that the Energy Ministry is planning to transfer water from the southern regions to central Iran with help from Japanese organizations.
