Tehran should follow the example set by developed cities and set up waste incineration plants to help manage waste and prevent their accumulation on streets. “In addition to its dire impacts on health and environment, buildup of household waste mars the image of the city,” said Rahmatollah Hafezi, head of the Health and Environment Commission at the Tehran County Council, according to IRNA. “It’s rather surprising that after all this time, Tehran Municipality has yet to begin work on incineration plants.” Hafezi called on the municipality to cooperate with the private sector and begin developing the necessary infrastructure to build incineration, or waste-to-energy, plants.
