A member of parliament has said the severity of dust storms in Khuzestan Province reflects the poor performance of environmental officials. Speaking to Mehr News Agency, Ahvaz MP Seyyed Sharif Hosseini criticized the government’s inability to tackle dust storms and said, “Despite their promises, officials have done little in the way of curbing the phenomenon.”  Officials have suggested flooding and mulching embattled wetlands that have become sources of dust storms due to factors such as drought and mismanagement of resources. Hosseini called on the authorities to implement measures to prevent the situation from getting worse.
