Satellite reports indicate that the pace of forest degradation in Iran’s northern regions is high and there is no sign of slowing down, warned Esmaeil Kahrom, an advisor to the head of the Department of Environment, ISNA reported. He said data from renowned organizations show that unless the rate of deforestation is checked, there will be no forests left in northern Iran in 100 years. Kahrom rued the destruction of mountainous regions across the country due to harmful activities such as mineral and cement production, and called for an end to industrial activity in vulnerable areas.
