A new open-access data portal to be developed by FAO will use satellite imagery to help water-scarce countries in the MENA region better manage this precious resource. “The portal will help provide important data that will assist countries afflicted by water scarcity to get more crops for every drop of water,” Mehr News Agency quoted Serge Nakouzi, FAO’s representative to Iran, as saying. Experts believe optimizing water resources by using the latest farming technologies is imperative to avoid a water crisis.
