To reduce the fatality rate of animals injured in road accidents, an emergency center will be set up to provide medical care to the wounded animals. “Quick response to accidents may save a lot of animals,” said director of Biodiversity and Wildlife Office at the Department of Environment, Majid Kharrazian Moqaddam, Borna News Agency reported. He said a working group comprising experts from Tehran-based NGOs was formed last year to facilitate the establishment of an animal emergency center, since such a facility has never been set up in Iran officially. “The project will be piloted in the provinces of Tehran, Golestan and Lorestan,” he said. Once the centers are up and running, workshops will be conducted in the three provinces for interested individuals from across the country. Moqaddam said the purpose is to facilitate the establishment of similar centers in other provinces. The workshops aim to train rangers and local communities to handle wounded animals. “The success of the plan depends on the capability, experience and expertise of environmental NGOs,” he said. Moqaddam said the centers are expected to begin operation by March 2016.
