Three weeks into summer and already worrying news about Iran’s water levels are emerging. Latest reports suggest that there are 24.46 billion cubic meters of water in the country’s dams, indicating a 1.64-billion-cubic-meter drop compared to the same period of last year. The amount of water behind dams was reported to be 26.1 billion cubic meters in the same period in 2014, suggesting a 6.3% drop in water levels in 2015. Around 25.9 billion cubic meters of water have flowed into dam reservoirs since the beginning of the current water year (started September 23, 2014). The figure was 29.8 billion cubic meters in the previous year.
