Tehran’s Waste Management Organization and the Headquarters of Environment and Sustainable Development at the Tehran Municipality signed a memorandum of understanding earlier this week to cooperate on waste management.

In line with the organization’s “Blue Sky, Clean Earth” environmental campaign, the MoU aims to facilitate collaboration between the two parties to meet the campaign’s goals.

Ali Mohammad Shaeri, chief of the Headquarters of Environment and Sustainable Development, and Hossein Jafari, CEO of WMO, signed the MoU and expressed the mutual desire for further collaboration. They also stressed the importance of promoting public awareness.

Jafari said source separation of domestic waste is the main focus of the accord, adding that waste management in Tehran is in need of improvement.

Educating the public, treating landfill leachate and developing ways to convert landfill biogas into energy are some of the tasks outlined in the MoU.

The two bodies will form a working group tasked with pursuing the campaign’s goals and reviewing proposals to optimize waste management.
