Indian Ambassador to Tehran D. P. Srivastava says he and his colleagues are making efforts to help expand relations between Tehran and New Delhi. “(Indian Prime Minister) Narendra Modi has issued a special call for increased cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the Indian envoy said in an interview with IRNA on the sidelines of a ceremony held in Tehran on Monday at the Parsian Esteghlal International Hotel to celebrate India’s Republic Day, which was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour and former foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki.

Republic Day honors the date on which the Constitution of India came into force on 26 January 1950.

The Indian ambassador also called for the continuation of consultations between the two countries to pave the way for the implementation of plans to develop the Port of Chabahar in southeastern Iran on the coast of the Gulf of Oman and construct a “north-to-south corridor.”
