Intelligence Ministry forces dismantled a major family drug trafficking gang led by four brothers in southern Iran and arrested its 13 members.
“The organized gang annually smuggled around 200 tons of narcotics in armed fishing boats from Pakistan to the southern provinces of Sistan-Baluchestan and Hormozgan, distributed a majority of the load across the country and sent the rest abroad,” Ali Salehi, the head of Hormozgan's Justice Department, was quoted as saying by ISNA.
"All their transactions were conducted through family members' cash cards and their turnover was around 10 trillion rials ($85 million)," he added.
The gang's 49 residential and commercial properties, 250 camels, 15 kg of gold, a number of cars and a large amount of cash in bank accounts were confiscated.
The approximate value of their total assets was over 3 trillion rials ($256 million).
