Those who advocate talks with Washington are ignoring the fact that hardliners are currently pulling the strings at the White House and that a vacillating and contradictory government cannot be trusted, a political observer says.
In a recent article, Ali Mousavi Khalkhali, the editor-in-chief of the Iranian Diplomacy website, says there are people who assume that the only way out of the challenges facing the country is to engage in talks with the administration of US President Donald Trump.
"However, those who moot this idea leave a simple question unanswered. Is there any guarantee that the US government would remain committed to the outcome of any negotiations after six months or after the [2020] US presidential election, or any other time?"
Khalkhali maintains that the Trump administration is clearly in a "state of confusion" with regard to Iran.
