First Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi said on Sunday the Islamic Republic believes it is necessary that financial backing and arms aid to the terrorist groups operating in the region be stopped to be able to contain terrorism, IRNA reported.
He also said, “Unfortunately, some western and regional countries recognized the danger when it had spread to various parts of the region and the world, and now it is essential that some policies which fanned the flames of terrorism be revised.”
Elsewhere, the senior diplomat said, “The abuse of freedom of expression to insult the religious sanctities of Muslims and promote Islamophobia is unacceptable and will only result in intensification of extremism.”
