The Portuguese foreign minister said the administration of President Hassan Rouhani has managed to enhance the image of Iran in the world and foiled attempts to isolate the country from the international community.

In his speech to students in the University of Tehran on Monday, Rui Machete expressed his country’s readiness to expand cooperation with Iran in various fields and said, “The administration (which took office in 2013) has succeeded in improving the image of Iran in the world and neutralized efforts made to isolate the Islamic Republic of Iran,” IRNA reported.

“The Lisbon government backs any political solution in the nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 (the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany),” he stated.

He added, “We support Iran’s nuclear rights and believe that the resolution of the nuclear issue can help improve the country’s relations with EU member states, such as Portugal.”  The Portuguese foreign minister also met with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif on the same day.
