Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Tehran and Manila should seize opportunities to strengthen the "cordial" relations between the two countries.
In a meeting with former speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines Jose de Venecia in Tehran, Larijani appreciated his efforts to help improve Tehran-Manila relations and said, "The current level of economic ties between the two countries is not proportional to the capacities for cooperation between Iran and the Philippines, and they should take advantage of all the capacities to strengthen their cordial relations," ICANA reported on Sunday.
The Majlis speaker called the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) a key parliamentary organization in Asia and said, "Parliaments should benefit from the capacities of the APA in their consultations and joint cooperation."
De Venecia, for his part, said the delegation's mission in Tehran is to help boost economic cooperation and mutual investment, adding, "Expansion of economic cooperation with Iran, which is a key and effective state in the region and Asia, is of great importance to different Asian countries."
He referred to the establishment of the APA and said, "Moving the headquarters of the APA to Tehran opens a new chapter in the activities of this regional parliamentary organization."
De Venecia is in Tehran at the head of a multinational economic delegation to meet and confer with Iranian officials.
