Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif is to set off for Pakistan on Thursday to hold talks with officials in Islamabad.
In addition to his counterpart, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Zarif will meet other senior Pakistani officials to discuss the latest developments in bilateral ties as well as the most significant regional and international issues, IRNA reported.
The two sides will also pursue the implementation of recent agreements reached between Tehran and Islamabad in a recent visit by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan to Tehran.
Khan traveled to Iran late last month for a two-day visit—the first since he took office last August—to discuss security and regional issues with senior Iranian officials.
According to President Hassan Rouhani, the two countries agreed to form a joint taskforce to combat militant activity on their shared border.
Zarif is following an agenda for holding consultations with Asian countries about the United States' destabilizing measures in the region following its withdrawal from Iran's 2015 nuclear deal and Tehran's decision to reduce its commitments under the accord.
Over the past week, he has visited Turkmenistan, India, Japan and China.
