Chinese Foreign Ministry's Special Envoy on Afghan Affairs Deng Xijun met with Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi in Tehran on Monday to discuss Afghanistan's peace efforts.
Deng is in Tehran at the head of a delegation to hold talks with Iranian authorities as part of regular consultations on Afghan issues between the two countries, ISNA reported.
The two sides discussed the latest political and security conditions in Afghanistan as well as ongoing efforts to establish peace in the country.
Araqchi highlighted the important role of regional countries to help Kabul's government reach a sustainable peace agreement with the Taliban insurgent group.
They also stressed the need to support a peace process owned and led by Kabul's internationally recognized administration.
Given the two countries' shared interests and concerns related to Afghanistan, Iranian and Chinese officials agreed to promote their bilateral cooperation in this regard.
Afghanistan has been grappling with the Taliban insurgency for years. International peace efforts are underway to broker an agreement between the administration and the militants.
