Iraqi President Barham Salih emphasized Baghdad's desire for balanced relations with both Iran and the United States, despite the strong antagonism between the two countries.
He made the statement in a meeting with British, German and French ambassadors to Iraq on Sunday, ISNA reported.
"Equal ties with all countries will improve security and stability, and spur economic development in the region and the world," he said, adding that Baghdad's talks with neighboring, Arab, regional and European countries pursue the same purpose.
Tensions have risen between Tehran and Washington since the US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal and its sanctions renewal.
The Iraqi government has declared its unwillingness to get involved in the conflict.
Salih also called for giving priority to shared aspects rather than differences and advised against political polarization in the region.
The European diplomats commended Iraq's balanced foreign policy, supporting Baghdad's important role in the region and among Arab states.
