Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif was to start an official visit to Turkmenistan on Sunday with the aim of boosting relations between the two neighboring countries in diverse political and economic areas.
Heading a politico-economic delegation, Zarif was slated to leave Tehran for Ashgabat to hold talks with the senior officials of Turkmenistan.
The top diplomat and Turkmen officials are to discuss ways of expanding bilateral relations in various fields, including political, trade, transportation, energy and customs, as well as regional and global developments, Tasnim News Agency reported.
In late January, Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and his Turkmen counterpart, Wafa Khadzhiev, held a round of political consultations in Tehran.
The officials explored joint solutions and plans to develop political and economic collaborations.
The two sides also stressed their will to maintain the current level of cooperation and called for efforts to create new capacities in bilateral relations, particularly in the fields of energy and transit.
Araqchi and Khadzhiev reached an agreement on upgrading the roadmap for expanding bilateral ties, considering new developments.
