The United Nations’ envoy for Iraq has traveled to Tehran to meet Iranian officials to discuss the situation in the Arab country, which is grappling with the aftermath of a devastating war with the self-styled Islamic State terrorist group after recapturing the areas overrun by militants.
Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, special representative of the UN secretary-general for Iraq and the head of UN Assistance Mission in Iraq, held talks with Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif on Monday.
The latest developments on the ground in Iraq, especially the situation of terrorists groups including IS, the recent decision by the United States to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps and its implications for the Arab country and the “provocative” activities of certain regional countries to incite “Iranophobia” were among topics discussed at the meeting, ISNA reported.
