A senior Iranian official on Sunday said the position adopted by the Group of Seven (G7) nations on Iran’s regional role and its defense program is “unrealistic” and “incorrect”.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi made the statement in response to the communiqué issued by G7 foreign ministers on Saturday after their two-day meeting in France, in which they voiced concerns about Iran’s “destabilizing activities” in the region and Iran’s ballistic missile program, which they claim is inconsistent with UN Security Council resolutions, ISNA reported.
The spokesman underlined Iran’s “constructive role” in promoting stability and security in the region and combating terrorism in West Asia and stressed that Tehran’s missile program is exclusively meant for defense.
Qasemi also said the charges leveled at Iran by the G7 are “unconstructive, one-sided and biased” and inconsistent with the commitments of European parties to the 2015 nuclear deal, which requires them to contribute to the creation of a positive atmosphere conducive to expansion of business ties.
