President Hassan Rouhani has invited regional countries to “brotherhood and good neighborliness” to guarantee peace and security without foreign help.
“Those in the region who think the United States and Zionists will provide them with security are totally mistaken … The region’s security is ensured by ourselves and we need to protect it through unity and cooperation,” he said during a public speech in Hormozgan Province on Sunday, his website reported.
He also stressed that the region does not need American presence.
“The region will be more stable and secure, and people will be happier the sooner they [US forces] leave,” he said.
The president emphasized that Iran seeks friendly relations with all countries, and a majority of Middle East states, except a few, are on good terms with Iran.
Saudi Arabia and the UAE have major differences with Iran over regional policies, both supporting harsh American measures against the country.
In addition, Rouhani pointed to the US hostile policies, saying they are aimed at putting pressure on the Iranian nation.
“Their purpose is to exhaust us … to create a division among us,” he said, adding that the Iranian people will counter such efforts with their unity.
