Fifteen people on board were killed when a Boeing 707 cargo plane crashed Monday morning after it skidded off the runway during an emergency landing at Fath Airport in Iran's Alborz Province.
The aircraft, owned by the Iranian Army, was carrying meat from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and was scheduled to land at Payam International Airport [also located] in Karaj, Army spokesman Amir Taghikhani told the state TV.
"Details will be announced as soon as initial investigations are completed," he added.
Only one person on board the plane survived the tragedy and was taken to the hospital.
The plane hit a wall of the residential area located at the end of the runway, causing considerable damage to three buildings. No one was inside the buildings at the time of the accident, head of a local fire department told reporters.
The government has been importing meat mostly from Central Asia to control the domestic market, following the price hikes in recent months.
