US to Face “Unprecedented” Defeat

Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday the United States will face an “unprecedented" defeat in its intensified confrontation with Iran.

In a meeting with a large number of people from the holy city of Qom in Tehran, the Leader acknowledged that renewed US sanctions have put pressure on people and created certain challenges for the country but vowed that Iran will manage to get through the current situation, his official website reported.

“The Americans happily say that sanctions against Iranian people are unprecedented in history. God willing, the Iranian nation will make them suffer an unprecedented defeat,” he said in a speech to commemorate an event from the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

In May, US President Donald Trump announced that he will impose “the highest level of economic sanctions” on Iran, violating an international nuclear agreement and a UN resolution, and breaking decisively with US allies in Europe.

The other parties to the 2015 deal with Iran have said they will try to keep it alive, but it is far from clear that will be possible in the face of sanctions reintroduced by Trump, targeting companies around the world for doing business with Iran. US measures have hit Iran’s economy hard.

Ayatollah Khamenei said the enemy is seeking to make people worried about the future through rumors and slanders, and intends to stir up animosity among them.

“However, they will fail in their attempts to turn people against each other,” he added, calling on people to remain vigilant and not fall for the enemy’s tricks.

The Leader urged government officials to take measures to help the country’s weakest

Self-Reliance

The Leader said other countries refused to give even barbed wire to the Islamic Republic during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war, which prompted the Iranian nation and officials to become self-reliant in various areas.

“It helped Iran become the unique regional power that it is today,” he said.

He stated that US officials will face the same fate as former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, who suffered a defeat after he attacked Iran, if they continue their hostile actions against Tehran.

The Leader also said Washington has made many miscalculations regarding Iran and the fate of the Islamic Revolution throughout history while Iran has always made prudent decisions.

“The Americans are angry with Iran because they have failed to bring Iran, which is the most important country in the region and is rich in natural resources, under their control,” he added.

He also called on government officials to take measures to help the country’s weakest whose lives have been negatively affected by US sanctions.

“It is an issue of high importance,” he stressed.

Ayatollah Khamenei encouraged people to purchase domestic products, saying that it will help boost the national economy.

The current Iranian year, which began on March 21, has been called the year of “Support for Iranian Products” by the Leader to help make the economy more self-sufficient and insulate it from sanctions and hostile foreign activity.
