New Envoy to China Meets Rouhani

The new ambassador to China met President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran on Tuesday before starting his mission in the East Asian country.

Mohammad Keshavarz-Zadeh presented a report on the latest developments in Tehran-Beijing relations to the president.

Rouhani stressed the importance of strengthening and developing ties with China.

“Thanks to the will of high-ranking officials from the two states, relations between Iran and China are on the right course and this trend will continue,” the president was quoted as saying  by his official website.

Keshavarz-Zadeh was endorsed by Rouhani as ambassador to China on Saturday. He had earlier served as top diplomat in Venezuela and Uzbekistan.

Former envoy Abdolnasser Hemmati was called back to Tehran to head the Central Bank of Iran in July. The Iranian Embassy in Beijing had no ambassador since then.
