Call for Redoubled Efforts to Bolster Defensive Might

Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei called on the Iranian armed forces to step up endeavors to boost their military preparedness and beef up the country’s defensive might.

He made the statement in a meeting with Navy officials and commanders in Tehran on Wednesday on the occasion of National Navy Day, IRNA reported.

Ayatollah Khamenei underscored the need for greater efforts to improve military prowess in the face of foreign threats, stating that the armed forces must boost their capabilities and readiness “so the enemies will not even dare make threats against the great Iranian nation”.

Pointing to the formation of an anti-Iranian alliance by hostile countries, he said, “The Islamic Republic does not intend to start war with any country, but it is necessary that [the armed forces] increase their capabilities to the level that discourages the enemy from launching an attack.”

Ayatollah Khamenei noted that reliance on the abilities of “young, faithful, motivated” human resources is vital for the resolution of problems facing the country in all areas, including the defense sector.

Prior to the Leader’s address, Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi presented a report on latest efforts by the force under his command to enhance naval fleets, including the process of upgrading the Sahand destroyer, revamping the Damavand destroyer and constructing the Fateh submarine by Iranian experts and engineers.
