Managing Director of Iran’s Social Security Organization Taqi Nourbakhsh and his deputy were killed in a car crash on Thursday in Golestan Province.
Nourbakhsh and his deputy for parliamentary affairs, Abdolrahman Tajeddin, were injured in the tragic accident and both died later in hospital, ISNA reported.
They were in the motorcade of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare Minister Mohammad Shariatmadari on an intercity road in the northern province when a truck hit their SUV.
President Hassan Rouhani issued a message of condolence over the death of the two officials, in which he paid tribute to Nourbakhsh as a dedicated and diligent manager who had been serving sincerely in the administration over the past five years.
SSO provides retirement, disability and unemployment insurance for wage-earners and salaried workers as well as self-employed persons who voluntarily pay into the organization’s schemes. The organization takes care of millions of people in Iran.
With an annual rate of about 17,000 casualties in road accidents, Iran has one of the world’s worst traffic safety records.
