Afghanistan will never experience peace as long as foreigners, including the Americans and NATO forces, are present in the war-ravaged country, a lawmaker said.
Russia held a meeting known as the Moscow Format on Friday with the purpose of uniting all sections of Afghan society to arrive at a political solution to end years of terrorism.
Officials from 11 countries, including Iran, China, Pakistan, India and some Central Asian states, attended the talks, ICANA reported.
Rasoul Eslami, assistant to Iran's foreign minister for West Asia affairs, represented Iran.
According to Jalil Rahimi, an Iranian parliamentarian, the meeting is unlikely to help establish peace in the long-suffering Afghan land since there is no common will to end the war.
“Foreign countries are taking advantage of the weakness in Afghanistan’s central government to make up for their absence in Central Asia,” he said.
Afghanistan has been suffering a state of insecurity caused by violent insurgencies for years.
