Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has said the United States cannot be trusted to lead the campaign against terrorism. He made the remarks in an interview with the Fars news agency on Thursday in reference to the report that the US Congress has given final approval to President Barack Obama’s plan for training and arming moderate Syrian rebels to battle the Islamic State, a major part of his military campaign against the extremist group. Amir-Abdollahian said the US is sticking to its double standard approach toward the issue of terrorism. He also said it is a “strategic mistake” to arm moderate Syrian rebels, adding it will increase insecurity and boost terrorism.
