Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei highlighted the increasing importance of non-military defense against the ever-renewing threats of enemies.
He made the statement in a meeting with the chairman and senior officials of Iran's Civil Defense Organization in Tehran on Sunday.
"In the face of the enemies' complicated methods of invasion, the civil defense bodies need to be alert and serious, and resist any influence in a systematic, precise, up-to-date and comprehensive way," he was quoted as saying by the Leader's official website.
He urged the authorities of all sectors, whether military or non-military, to cooperate fully with the Civil Defense Organization to prevent any possible harm.
"If top officials fail to embrace the importance of civil defense and it does not develop properly, the country will face threats [whose damage] will be at times irreparable," the Leader said.
Iran's Civil Defense Organization was established in 2003 on the order of Ayatollah Khamenei. October 30 is celebrated each year as National Civil Defense Day on the occasion of the decree's issuance.
