Former first vice president Mohammad Reza Aref said the reformists are able to win at least a simple majority in the Majlis in the 2016 parliamentary election if they become united and do not “seek their shares”, IRNA reported. Aref, who is expected to stand as a leading pro-reform candidate in the parliamentary election, made the remarks in a meeting with Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Gerami, who is a marja taqlid (a high-ranking Shiite cleric who is regarded as a source of emulation), in Qom on Monday. Aref briefed the ayatollah on the current state of the reformist movement and said guidelines by clerics can help promote “unity” and “solidarity” among the reformists.
